Dudley Council’s finance chief could leave after a key budget vote, raising concerns about leadership stability.

The section 151 officer is a key role and one of the top three jobs, forming ‘The Golden Triangle’. Arnold’s LinkedIn shows a February end date; he’d leave after a crucial budget meeting.
Council Leader Patrick Harley spoke about Arnold, saying the role was “interim.” Arnold helped increase reserves by £30m and balanced the budget until 2030.
Harley said departments must continue the work, noting that directors and cabinet members will help. The 151 officer completed the hard part, and the rest of the council now handles operations.
Currently, interims hold all ‘Golden Triangle’ jobs, which concerns the Labour opposition. Labour leader Pete Lowe shared his concerns, questioning the commitment of interim staff.
Lowe stressed dedication matters most and wants a committed workforce. He wants people working with Dudley communities to help overcome financial issues.
