A bus driver trainee crashed his car while driving drunk on the motorway. Jason Levy, 26, drove 130 mph in his BMW, exceeding the 70 mph speed limit. He crashed into the central barrier, causing his car to flip onto its roof. He then told a helper to “f*** off!”.

The crash happened near Chester. Levy got out of the wrecked car and started “dancing” in the road. He then punched and kicked other cars. Six officers restrained him, using pepper spray to subdue him. He was twice the alcohol limit and damaged cars that stopped to help, causing a total of £3,800 in damage.

Levy admitted several charges in court, including dangerous and drunk driving, drug driving, obstruction, and criminal damage. Despite the charges, he avoided jail time. The judge gave him a suspended sentence because he felt suicidal, coinciding with his mother’s death anniversary.

The court heard he felt “genuinely remorseful” and wanted to compensate the car owners. Levy must complete mental health treatment and rehabilitation activities for a year. He must also pay £832.32, £2,811.55, and £150 to the three drivers he harmed, alongside a three-year driving ban.

The judge cited strong personal reasons. Levy drove recklessly fast on August 18, 2024, crashing his blue BMW on the M53. His car rolled after hitting the barrier. A witness stated that Levy acted oddly, waving his arms and laughing, while another witness who tried to help was told to “F*** off”.

Another person saw Levy hitting cars. Police arrived and found Levy standing in the road, bloody and confused. Officers used a taser, which failed, then used pepper spray. It took many people to detain him. A video showed him driving 130 mph seconds before the crash.

His blood alcohol level was 139mg, exceeding the legal limit of 80mg. His lawyer explained that Levy cared for his sick mother and found her dead in August 2023, leaving him traumatized. It was the anniversary of his mother’s death, and he was having a breakdown, having called 111 for help earlier that day, revealing he felt in crisis and went to the police station, which was unmanned. He drove to end his life, not thinking it would impact anyone.
