Eight face jail after £2.8M drug hauls in Scottish Borders. Sentences this year aim to curb serious crime.

A 38-year-old got two years in jail after Jedburgh Sheriff Court handed down this sentence for supplying controlled drugs.
Two 22-year-old men each got one year and eight months for growing cannabis in Hawick and Jedburgh. The cannabis they grew was worth over £300,000.
Last month, five men also faced sentencing and got over nine years in jail collectively. Their crime involved growing cannabis near Galashiels, worth almost £2.5 million.
Detectives in the Scottish Borders want to stop criminals and plan on targeting serious crime. It doesn’t matter where criminals operate, even across the UK.
Police want the public to help them catch criminals, encouraging people to report anything that seems off. Unusual building activity or strong smells matter, and the public can call Police Scotland at 101 to report concerns. People can also report anonymously to Crimestoppers at 0800 555 111, where police listen and use tips to act.
