Dealers Rudge and Lord used coded texts for drugs. The court used these messages as key evidence, sentencing them to jail.

Kyle Rudge, 34, and Chris Lord, 31, got caught because another dealer’s phone had their contact info. “KR” meant Rudge and “Lordy” meant Lord.
Messages on the phone showed cannabis and money were involved. The texts talked about selling drugs. Police searched Lord’s home in Newport in October and found 19 grams of cannabis. Lord went to the police station and said he used the cannabis himself.
Rudge got arrested in November when police stopped his car on the M4. They took two phones with drug dealing texts. Rudge asked for 11 ounces of cannabis in one text. The messages listed names with money owed for cannabis.
Police rearrested Lord and seized another phone with more drug dealing texts. Lord texted, “Got snow here, and wedding cake”.
Rudge admitted to supplying cannabis and had 11 past convictions, including theft and intent to supply drugs. Lord admitted to supplying cannabis and cocaine, and he also had cannabis. Lord has two past theft convictions.
Lord’s lawyer said Lord was stressed and sought a “quick fix.” Rudge’s lawyer said Rudge took responsibility and had a long-term cannabis problem.
The judge sentenced Rudge to three years in jail, while Lord got 32 months in jail. The court will also address their assets acquired via crime.
