Cork Airport passengers often see the Lough from above. A drone operator filmed stunning views of this famous lake. It sits on Cork’s southside.

Geese live at the Lough and are very protective. Moutarde Drone got great footage while ensuring the drone avoided getting pecked.

The DJI Mini 2 Drone recorded the video in high 4K quality. The Lough covers four hectares and is up to 1.6 metres deep.

The Lough became a refuge in 1881, now home to ducks, geese, and swans. The Lough’s black swan came back in November 2023 after recovering from a leg injury.

Eels and fish also reside there. A young angler caught a carp last year that weighed a huge 9kg, making it the fourth-biggest carp caught in Ireland that year.

Other animals reside there too. Namely, a turtle observed in the Lough last summer is a non-native, invasive species. Pond slider turtles have also been seen.

Cork City Council studied the Lough’s history, revealing its shape changed over two centuries. The lake froze several times, with the last occurring roughly around 2010.

Cork musician John Spillane filmed a video by the water last year. The video tells the Lough’s legend and is about the lake’s origin.

The legend tells of King Corc’s palace that was near a spring. His daughter drowned, and these events formed the Lough.

Moutarde Drone’s video showcased the Lough’s beauty. It’s a landmark in 2025.
