Jamie Diver died in a car accident last weekend. The crash happened in Gortahork, Donegal. He was in his early twenties. Jamie wanted to be a firefighter. His funeral Mass took place in Christ the King Church.

Shaun McClafferty also died in the accident. Their Suzuki Liana hit a house wall. The accident occurred around 9:30 pm. Shaun’s funeral is the next day in that same church.

Josh Montgomery Scanlon and Darragh Lynch survived and are still in the hospital. People gathered to say goodbye to Jamie, who was known to his friends as ‘Slicks’.

Jamie’s parents, Róise and Damien, attended the funeral, along with his brothers Ryan and Keith. Other family members and many friends mourned his loss.

Jamie’s grandparents preceded him in death. He recently started a car valeting service and was always busy working, leaving him with little time for dating.

Fr. O’Baoill spoke about Jamie’s life, noting that he wanted to help people. He always helped with cars, fixing and buffing them for others. They were probably fixing a car that night.

Jamie was dedicated to his work, running his own business and working at Errigal Motors. He was a perfectionist, believing in doing things well.

Cars were Jamie’s lifelong passion, starting in school when he took a valeting course. The community struggles with this tragedy as Fr. O’Baoill questioned why it happened, noting how fragile life truly is.

Fr. O’Baoill recalled another crash six years ago that also claimed young lives. He said young people are precious and represent our future.

Friends brought tokens to the altar, including a hat, teacup, spanner, and buffer, representing his passions. Cars lined the street with “Remembering Slicks” plates.

Friends will gather again to mourn Shaun and the community will celebrate him as well. He also tragically died that night in Donegal.
