Dog owners in the UK risk a £500 fine for not properly IDing their dogs with collars and tags, according to PDSA and GOV.UK.

Tags need key details to meet legal requirements. Include your name and full address, as just your name on the tag is not enough.
Microchipping is also vital. Since 2016, all dogs need one, and this must happen by eight weeks old. Keep your contact info updated on the registry.
Dogs need collars outside, even with microchips. Even off-leash dogs must have them; not doing so gets a fine. GOV.UK warns it’s up to £500.
Police enforce microchip rules too, and they can scan strays they find. You get 21 days to microchip your dog; a penalty follows if you don’t.
Different countries have various rules. They have acts for England, Wales, and Scotland. Northern Ireland has its own rules too.
The UK lists compliant databases for pets. Register your dog or cat on one. Gov.uk warns about fines again; they fine up to £500 if you don’t.
