Royal Mail suspends deliveries after dog incidents on Burnley Road in Ainsdale. Residents must collect mail from Southport Delivery Office.

A postman was attacked last June. He was delivering mail when a dog bit him. He had to go to the hospital for his injuries. Police investigated, but they didn’t have enough evidence.
Deliveries continued until it happened again. This time, a dog tried to attack a postwoman and neighbors stepped in and helped her. The dog is thought to be a border collie.
Now, people must pick up their mail at the Southport Delivery Office on Wight Moss Way, about 3.5 miles away. Royal Mail will help those who can’t get there.
One man, Neil, had neck surgery and needs NHS letters, but no mail is coming. He can drive, but many elderly people can’t. Another resident, Elaine, thinks it’s awful.
Royal Mail is talking about a solution and might let people pick up mail at the Ainsdale post office. They sent a letter by hand to tell people the bad news. People wondered why they hand-delivered that letter.
Royal Mail said a manager delivered them early, thinking the dog would not be outside then. Police said they investigated the first dog bite, but did not find enough evidence to continue.
Royal Mail says deliveries are stopped for safety and it is a small part of Burnley Road that is affected. They want to ensure employee safety and won’t deliver mail until it is safe again.
They will find ways to help during the mail suspension.
