A mom shared a story about her daughter’s dog attack. Seven-year-old Mia was hurt by their pet dog, Bane. It was a Pocket Bully. Her mom, Rebecca Fisher, called it a freak accident, adding that it was a traumatic experience for her. The dog was usually loving but was feeling unwell.

Rebecca, from Sheffield, stepped away to use the bathroom briefly. Then she heard Mia screaming loudly and said it was the worst thing. The dog laid on Mia like it always did, but he was too heavy and squashed her. Mia pushed him, touching his belly, which was painful. The dog then turned and snapped at her face.

Mia got cuts on her hip from the dog. Her face has multiple wounds, including those from his paws and a deep tooth wound. Rebecca’s other daughter helped stop Mia’s bleeding.

Mia had emergency surgery on her cheek following the dog attack on January 31. She had two surgeries following the bite and recently had another operation for an infection. Her mom says Mia faces a long recovery. However, she still loves dogs, although the incident has been hard on Mia’s 10-year-old sister, who can’t sleep and can’t look at Mia’s face. The dog is currently in kennels with the police.

Mia was one of three kids attacked by pets last week, all within 48 hours in South Yorkshire. Police shared images of kids’ injuries. They urged parents to take more responsibility. Last year, police had 347 dangerous dog investigations involving children under 15. Chief Inspector Emma Cheney wants people to know this can happen to anyone.

On January 29, a 16-year-old girl had surgery after a Cane Corso attacked her in Rossington. A photo showed skin hanging from her arm. The dog was put down with the owner’s agreement. Five hours before Mia’s incident, a boy was attacked. A Pit Bull bit the seven-year-old in Thorne, near Doncaster, and the animal was seized.

Chief Inspector Cheney says bites often happen at home, commonly inflicted by a family dog. Children under seven are more likely to be attacked because they don’t always understand warning signs from the dog. Dangerous dogs place huge demands on the police. Police are working to prevent attacks and advise families not to leave children and dogs alone. A dog should have a safe space when visitors are present.
