Firefighters worked hard through the night in Hyde. The fire happened at a closed bingo hall; it’s the former Astoria site. The building has been empty since 2009. The fire started Monday evening, February 24.

The bingo hall is on Clarendon Street. Flames quickly spread everywhere, and bricks fell into the street. Black smoke filled the sky as people watched in shock. The damage was devastating.

Emergency services stayed on the scene Tuesday. A cordon is still up near the bus station. Crews used aerial equipment to check the damage from above. Police also stayed at the scene.

The fire service got a call around 8:25 PM. The address was Clarendon Street in Hyde, and fire engines came from several stations. Hyde, Ashton, and Stalybridge all sent crews. Gorton and Oldham also sent help.

The fire was in a two-story building. Firefighters wore breathing gear and used hoses to fight the fire. Police closed the road, and crews are still there. The fire service will give updates soon.
