A Derbyshire street’s poor condition angers locals despite recent council repairs, with residents calling for better solutions.

Some people mentioned London Road in Derby. Others suggested Kilbourne Road in Belper. Many named Kingsway and Nook End Road in Heanor. That road didn’t seem so bad at first glance. We checked out Kingsway and Nook End Road in person.
We quickly saw how bad the road actually was. Nook End Road starts at Derby Road then turns into Kingsway, with a sharp bend. It connects to Douglas Avenue too.
A woman named Alison lives nearby. She walks her dog, Dorris, on Kingsway. Alison called the road “dreadful.” The top section got resurfaced recently, yet the tarmac is already coming loose again, she noted.
Alison thinks the road is unsafe and causes problems for drivers. She wants them to fix it properly, not just patch it. Many elderly and disabled people live there who can’t get around safely, impacting their lives badly.
Dave Blythe lives on Douglas Avenue and said he’s glad the issue is acknowledged. Many people feel like they must just deal with it quietly. They think complaining is pointless, since it’s not a main road, though many use it daily, so the council should help.
The road has been poor for a while, recently seeming to get worse. The council should care about local roads. If they can look after roads, they can look after other things too.
Many drivers seemed unaware of the road’s condition. Big vehicles are probably fine. However, smaller cars might struggle navigating the potholes.
Joyce Foster has lived there over 30 years. She explained why so many cars use the road, saying it’s a shortcut, so people drive fast. Bad driving and poor roads can cause accidents; the road is bad because too many cars use it.
The council said they are trying their best to fix roads via a lot of resurfacing work, despite getting less money from the government. They know much more needs to be done. Kingsway and Nook End Road are under review. They will fix the road soon, having already done repairs; bigger fixes are happening.
