Venue owner is angry. He says police failed to act after his staff was assaulted by a man who broke into his Derby bar.

The owner, Paul Keenen, said the man was aggressive. The staff cleaned up after a late shift when he broke in and allegedly slapped a worker; police were called, but he ran away.
Keenen checked CCTV and found the man, with door staff recognizing the man’s picture. Keenen gave police photos and even a Facebook profile that matched the details from the bouncers.
Weeks later, on February 23rd, the police called Keenen saying they had the man, but Keenen reported the officer knew nothing about it. Police thought the man only caused damage.
Keenen said the man broke in and assaulted people, feeling it was a serious crime; police offered money for a new lock, but Keenen did not consider this enough. The assault victim felt too scared to press charges, worrying about being found at his workplace after the incident; so, the victim decided against further action.
Police called Keenen again on Sunday evening and interviewed the man, stating there was not enough to prosecute, despite CCTV along with eyewitness accounts. Keenen thought the man committed another crime.
Keenen wonders why they didn’t charge the man, feeling more evidence should be unnecessary, and thinks this needs to be known by the public. He stated that breaking in and assault is now apparently okay and called it incompetence.
Keenen worries for his staff ever since, as the incident impacted their well-being badly. He filed a complaint with police on Monday, but the police stated they had not received a complaint.
Derbyshire police said they got a damage report on January 3rd and investigated and spoke to a man. They reviewed the evidence from the incident and said conviction was not realistic, therefore, the case was closed to investigation.
They also got an assault report for that same date, but because the victim did not want to press the issue, the case was also closed. The police say they did not get an official complaint and will investigate if they receive one.
