A man in his 30s died in a flat fire in Spondon. Emergency services responded, no foul play suspected.

Callum Caves lives on Rovings Drive and woke up around 8 AM to see flashing lights. His bathroom overlooks the cordoned courtyard where forensic teams were checking a property.
Callum saw a family outside, without shoes, and brought them inside for warmth. He gave them a hot drink and offered comfort. Smoke came from the house, and the scene shocked him; he hopes everyone else is alright.
Rovings Drive is a quiet street near Nottingham Road. An ambulance left the scene after 10 AM, although emergency vehicles remained at noon. Susan Bradwell, who walks her dog nearby daily, noticed many emergency vehicles.
Susan walked her dog around 6:30 AM and saw nothing then. At 7:15 AM on her return, the street bustled. She noted police, ambulance, and fire crews. Things seemed calmer later, she observed, and she finds such events upsetting.
A police officer patrolled near the railway footpath, using black and yellow tape. Blue and white tape marked the courtyard cordon.
The fire service issued a statement at 11:40 AM. They said a man in his 30s died in a Rovings Drive flat. The man died despite rescue efforts. Firefighters offer their sympathy to his family. The fire investigation is currently underway and there are no suspicious circumstances, police say.
