A man who triggered a bomb scare in Derby claims he yelled “bum,” not “bomb.” Jury didn’t agree, leading to a three-year sentence.

Get this, he was just out of prison. Only fifteen days before, he was freed. He served time for the exact same crime. Police arrested him nearby, about 400 meters off. He repeated the bomb threat to them too.
At trial, he tried to defend himself. He claimed he actually shouted “bum,” not “bomb.” The jury didn’t believe his story; they found him guilty for the bomb threat via communication.
The judge sentenced him to three more years. The judge said he was shouting loudly and people heard him say he possessed a bomb. This caused concern for everyone including the cleaner.
The judge noted this event occurred soon after his release. He was still supervised for a similar crime then. He previously bombed in Northampton, which also resulted in a three-year jail term.
The prior time, they had to evacuate a whole police station because he was upset. It related to his lodging. He thought it would get him attention.
The judge warned repeat offenses would mean more time. Back in 2021, he phoned emergency services multiple times claiming a bomb. He stated he was going to the police station.
He arrived wearing a white mask and carried a rucksack on his chest. His hand was inside it, as if holding a detonator. Police evacuated the Northampton station, and eight armed officers responded quickly.
His lawyer said he had been in custody for eight months. She admitted his actions were very stupid. He knows his actions scared the public, realizing the distress he caused.
