A bungalow in Derby has been approved to operate as a childminding business for a 12-month trial.

Ms. Testro applied with the council’s planning documents. She stated a big need for childcare in Chaddesden. Her business aims to support parents facing this issue. Ms. Testro said her bungalow is perfect. It suits her Ofsted-registered business.
Over forty people wrote letters supporting her plan. Almost twenty people objected to the plan at the council. This led to a meeting for councillors to discuss it. They needed to vote on the application.
The objections involved parking and traffic issues. Some felt the use was too intense. They thought it could create excessive noise and activity. Garden noise concerned people during warmer months.
Councillors thought parking issues could be solved easily. Children arriving at different times would help. It should spread out the traffic flow. Councillor Rawson welcomed more local childcare options. This gives parents more choice.
He felt people would use side streets for parking. The busy road might encourage this. Councillor Bolton agreed the road is busy. However, arrivals and departures would be spread out. She saw the twelve-month trial as sensible. She also noted the need for more childminders. It allows more people to work.
Ms. Testro said her new property is perfect. The garden is a great size. She is working on the garden too. She will make it fully functional. The new place has more space for cars. Accessing the building is easier now. Many kids she cares for live nearby. Childcare is scarce in Chaddesden now.
