Hey, guess what? There’s good news about that old building in Dawlish! You know, the one everyone wanted to save. A new owner bought it. It’s a Grade II listed building called The Old Vicarage. It was in really bad shape.

The building’s been empty for about 25 years. It got worse over time because no one lived there. Momentum Estates bought it. They’re a property developer in the southwest. They said they will fix it up. The Vicarage Residents Group is excited. They worked hard to protect the building.

The developer has plans to restore the building. These plans seem good. No one approved any plans since 2015. The building is pretty old. Parts of it might be from the 1600s.

Great Western Railway bought it in 1939. They turned it into apartments. The last person left around the year 2000. Previous owners didn’t fix the building. They let it get worse. Some plans wanted to tear it down.

Mary Nock leads the Vicarage Residents Group. She is very happy about the new owner. Mary said the new owner knows about old buildings. His plans respect the history. He wants to make it a nice place again. She worked hard to make this happen. She talked to everyone involved.

Mary took the new owner to see the site. People from the council came too. Historic England also talked about the building. The developer showed his ideas. He got positive feedback.

Mary introduced the developer to some people. This included the land owner. It also included the Crown’s legal team. It was complicated because of different owners. A council person helped a lot.

Mary hopes this inspires others to save old buildings. She wants the council to approve a plan quickly. Then the building can be famous for good reasons. The council confirmed they spoke to people. They said they gave advice. They hope it helps the site.

Historic England met with the developer. They support fixing the building. They said experts should guide the work. The Old Vicarage is from the 1600s. It is made of cob and sandstone.

Someone added a limestone part in 1850. A brick entrance was added later, possibly in the 1800s. There is also a smaller, separate building. People call it The Gig House. It could be as old as the main building. The Old Vicarage changed a lot over time. Momentum Estates didn’t comment.
