Daughter makes emotional appeal on Crimewatch to find her mother’s killer 30 years after the unsolved murder in Irvine.

Candice was just seven then. Her mum, Shona Stevens, went shopping; Shona never came back home. Shona was 31 when someone murdered her near her house in Irvine.
They found her on a path in a wooded area close by. This happened around 1:20 pm on November 10, 1994. She had serious head injuries and died three days later at the hospital.
The killer has never been found. Candice, now 37, made a plea on BBC One’s Crimewatch Live program. She wants information about her mum’s death.
Candice said losing her mum changed everything. She wants people to share any details, even a tiny bit of information. Her mum deserves justice after all this time.
Detective Inspector Gillies thinks the answers are local. Shona walked to the Co-op around 1 pm, then walked alone on Towerlands Road. This was about 1:10 pm, and someone attacked her there.
Police believe it was blunt force trauma; they struck Shona’s head. Gillies believes people know something and wants anyone with info to come forward. The case remains a priority, and they want answers for Shona’s family.
In 2021, police showed a keyring found at the crime scene. It looks like a cartoon figure. Crimestoppers offered a reward last year of up to £20,000 for information that names her killer.
