Plan for 850 homes, a new link road near Bishopton Lane in Darlington’s Skerningham Garden Village submitted to Darlington Council.

The company, Tiviot Way Investments Ltd, made the bid. Their plans offer a new link road. It would serve the Skerningham Garden Village area.
They need a report to check the environment. This report helps decide if a study is needed. It checks for environmental impact. This occurs when they submit full plans. The site plan shows the development’s location. It will be part of the Skerningham Garden Village.
The site is big, covering 487 hectares. It lies north of Darlington. It touches Beaumont Hill, Whinfield, and Great Burdon. The plan includes up to 850 homes. About 450 are in the current local plan.
The land covers about 65 hectares. Plans include space for nature. There’s public open space too. The road links to the A1150. Apartments may be three or four stories tall. Houses may reach two or three stories.
The project will include affordable housing options. New open spaces are planned, as well. They will fund other village infrastructure. The cricket club stays where it is. It will get better access from Bishopton Lane.
Developers released a masterplan update in November. Banks Property and Skerningham Estates Ltd did this. It had road details and community talks. People worry about the building pace. They want the road built sooner.
The road should be done by 2036 to 2041. This is phase four of the project. Darlington Council will review the bid soon. The council will make a decision later this year.
