A student from Stoke-on-Trent died at a university gym. The incident occurred at the University of East Anglia. It happened in Norwich, Norfolk, on October 16 last year.

Mohammed Farraj, 21, was using gym equipment, and he died at the Sportspark scene. His injury was ruled a traumatic head injury. Police found no outside party caused the death.

The Health and Safety Executive investigated the incident but decided against further action at this time. New evidence could change their decision later. Their thoughts are with Farraj’s family.

Farraj’s father has questions about the event and has asked for the CCTV tape from the accident. He wants to review it before the inquest. Family sources described a “massive crash” at the gym. A source also said the machine was not faulty.

Farraj was using a Smith machine when injured, and he was fit and had no health issues. Tributes described him as hard-working and kind, and the medical school said he could have been a great doctor.

His cousin called him super smart and kind, saying he always helped others and wanted to become a doctor. His family is heartbroken following the loss. A friend, Isaac Rodriquez, spoke with the BBC. He said Farraj worked very hard at the gym and was compassionate, kind, and always helpful. The full inquest is set for March 26.
