A dad was jailed for smuggling drugs to a friend in prison using shoes with hidden compartments in their heels.

The crime happened on October 6, 2023. Simpson visited a friend inside prison then and brought shoes filled with cannabis. The heels had secret spaces.
Simpson swapped his shoes with the inmate. Prison staff noticed his awkward walk and also saw his untied shoelaces. Staff realized the shoes weren’t the same.
They discovered cannabis inside the shoes. Small bags held the Class B drugs. The drugs were worth £370 outside prison, but their value in prison was much higher.
Police estimated the value at £1,015 to £3,700. During his arrest, Simpson stayed silent. The court learned this crime usually means jail.
The judge said he planned the drug smuggling and prepared to pass the cannabis. The sentence reflected the prison drug problem. Simpson admitted bringing drugs in at court on November 13, 2024.
Simpson has a stable family and lives with his partner and children. The judge knew Simpson felt forced to do it.
Probation said he was unlikely to re-offend. The judge stressed the seriousness of the crime. Smuggling drugs into prison is very wrong.
Everyone needs to see it that way. The court sentenced Simpson to eight months.
