Public inquiry into Crooked House fire is delayed, frustrating council seeking pub’s rebuild brick by brick.

The council told ATE Farms to rebuild it; this order came in February 2024. CAMRA wanted the pub rebuilt exactly as it was. ATE Farms, however, appealed the order to the High Court.
The appeal concerned delaying the public inquiry, which was initially set for next month. The High Court advised pausing it, leading the council to state the delay was frustrating and beyond their control.
The inquiry is paused, waiting for the police arson probe to conclude. The council is very disappointed by this news, as the inquiry was planned for March 11, 2025. The council prepared extensively for the inquiry and wanted to defend their rebuild order. They have now exhausted all currently available options.
Councillor Mark Evans echoed the frustration and acknowledges public disappointment. He reassured everyone that the council remains committed and will move forward when they are able. Six people were arrested after the fire, but all six were subsequently released on bail.
