Coventry started fixing three old summerhouses built in the 1800s. These buildings stand on Stoney Road Allotments in the Cheylesmore area.

The summerhouses needed repair work as these plots are from the Park Gardens, which started two centuries ago. These are rare Victorian gardens, listed by Historic England as special places.

Historic England gave £250,000 to help fix them. The Railway Heritage Trust and Network Rail also gave support. The Stoney Road Gardens Association uses the allotments.

A council member is excited about the project and appreciates Historic England’s money, as well as the support from other groups. People are very interested in this project.

Historic England’s director is also pleased the money helped fix the summerhouses. Workers repaired roofs and rebuilt walls using old methods and real materials, so the buildings now look like they used to.

The summerhouse renovations should finish by spring.
