Work starts on Coventry’s Palmer Lane building, improving historic access after council approves plan.

Palmer Lane existed before 1066. It shows up in documents from the 1000s. The Historic Coventry Trust wants to improve it, and Coventry City Council already approved their plans.
This revamp is part of a bigger project. The city wants to “open up” the area. This includes the River Sherbourne’s nearby section. The council got a new request that involves removing a planning condition, which relates to Palmer House.
They must complete archaeology before any work begins. They will add new doors to the building and are removing 1980s steps. Floor levels inside will also change.
The application details the archaeological approach. The council must approve it first. Only then can that vital work commence.
The council planners are reviewing the request. You can find details online by searching for application PL/2025/0000247/DCA. Use the planning applications search on the council website. Pretty interesting stuff, right?
