A sensory library starts tomorrow, March 4, at the city library. Alex Hilton, who has autism, started the project. Coventry Resting Spaces helped him, and Grapevine’s team also gave support.

Alex noticed sensory issues get little help, which can cause stress for autistic people. He wants people to try different tools to see what works before buying. He wished he’d tried headphones earlier, as they would have helped him a lot.

The library is free with a library card and will have lights and weighted pads. Anyone can use the library, but it primarily focuses on adults with autism.

Councillor Sandhu thinks it’s great for the library. She said everyone deserves needed equipment and is happy Alex worked with local groups.

People can test the equipment after March 4. Find it near the VR rooms and ask staff at the front desk for help. The library catalogue will list items.

Alex lacked support for his sensory needs for years. Headphones helped him greatly at work, but he got them after a decade. Sharing cuts down on waste, which benefits the planet. He cares about the earth and is happy for this project.
