MP says staggered lights could have prevented Keaton Slater’s hit and run death on Radford Road in Coventry.

Keaton Slater was a Cardinal Newman student. A speeding car killed him in June 2024. Police think Dolars Aleksanders drove the BMW.
Aleksanders is still missing and wanted by police. They suspect dangerous driving caused the death. He may have fled to Latvia. Police are trying to bring him back to the UK.
Residents and Keaton’s parents gathered for action. They want safety changes on Radford Road. The group met at the community center on Tuesday.
They propose staggered lights, a 20mph limit.
They also desire a crossing by Radford Social Club. Owatemi stated staggered lights prevent high speeds. Aleksanders could not have hit 80mph, she noted.
She explained the driver’s route that day. Staggered lights would have forced him to stop. Traffic could move safely with this plan. She detailed the benefits of this traffic scheme again.
You stop at lights by Aldi, then near the club. This makes reckless speeding impossible, she said. Owatemi is working to extradite Aleksanders from Latvia.
She contacted Yvette Cooper about this. Brexit creates some new difficulties though. Owatemi contacted the Latvian Ambassador, but received no answer.
She said they historically have poor extradition records. EU ties made it easier before, she said. Keaton’s dad, Clint, mentioned a meeting with the CPS.
They will discuss Aleksanders’ extradition. The situation is unclear, he explained.
