A grieving mom is fighting a council order to remove personal tributes from her daughter’s grave after complaints.

The grave had toys and drawings on it, left by friends and family as tributes. Then, the local council told Gemma to remove these items because visitors complained about the decorations. Gemma felt devastated after receiving the council’s letter and hasn’t been able to sleep or eat.
She misses Lottie very much and visits Lottie’s grave every day, telling her about her day. Gemma believes the decorations show their love and that the council’s letter seemed cold, treating Lottie like just a number. The letter stated everything must be removed, or else.
Gemma’s husband, Jason, started a petition asking the council to let the decorations stay. The petition has already gathered over 3,000 signatures. The council plans to meet with the family to discuss the situation.
Lottie’s friends also contributed to the decorations on the grave. One friend placed a solar light so Lottie wouldn’t be in the dark. Gemma wants the rules to change for children’s graves, envisioning a beautiful garden there.
Lottie got sick in May 2022, experiencing headaches and drooping on one side of her face. She endured five operations and cancer treatments, but sadly, they didn’t work, and she received palliative care. The family had hoped for a miracle cure.
Lottie’s burial took place in June of 2023, a very traumatic time for Gemma. She believes that no parent should have to witness such a tragedy. Gemma and Jason now suffer from PTSD and depression.
Lottie was remembered as a kind girl who always put others first. Gemma feels the council doesn’t understand their pain. The council has apologized to the Sadler family, stating they didn’t mean to cause them distress and want to find a solution for everyone. The council plans an urgent meeting about this matter.
