Hey, guess what’s happening with the council car? They might sell the car used by the chairman. It’s just not getting driven enough, apparently.

The council bought it in 2020 for events. A committee is checking its value for money and might replace it or just get rid of it. It’s worth under £15,000 with few miles.

They originally bought it for anyone to be chair, ensuring even non-drivers could do the job. The council saves £10,000 yearly for upkeep, also for a possible replacement car later.

One option is selling the car altogether. Then, the chair would get £2,400 annually, which they could use for mileage or taxis instead. The committee could buy a newer car; electric models are being considered, around £30,000.

Another choice is keeping the car as is now. They would then look at it again in 2026. The committee will decide this Thursday.

The car is for the chairman or vice-chairman to use for duties. A driver is available too, if they ask. The car hasn’t been used much the last three years. Having a car makes the role accessible, ensuring that all members can be chairman, even without a car or driving ability.

Lindsey is rural and public transport is tricky. They asked other councils to share a car, actually. Lincoln, North Lincolnshire, and North Kesteven all declined. Stephen Bunney is currently the chairman. He runs meetings and attends events.
