Workers planned a strike in Leek, and other towns. The council is dealing with a pay disagreement. Bin men and parks workers were involved.

The planned strike was for one week. It was set for Monday, February 24. Unison verified the strike got cancelled after discussions. AES employs these workers. They provide services for the council. After talks, a better pay deal emerged. Union members will soon vote on it.

Anna Eastgate spoke about the discussions. AES is managing talks with their team members. She said an offer exists for the workers now. They await the voting results for the offer.

Strikes could happen if workers reject the offer. Workers might strike on Monday, March 10. Another strike could occur Friday, March 14.

AES employees felt unhappy with low wages. Unison stated workers made barely more than minimum wage. The new offer hopefully ends the dispute. Matt Dwyer discussed similar jobs. AES workers’ roles match council workers’.

Unison’s Keith McKenzie talked about frontline workers. They clean streets and bury people. They earn barely above minimum wage now. AES workers have worse contracts. Their hours are even longer too.

The exact details of the new pay offer stay unknown now.
