An N-plate driver was arrested near Bandon for speeding at 179 km/h in a 100 km/h zone and driving without insurance.

Cops doing speed checks caught someone going super fast.
This driver hit 179 km/h in a 100 km/h zone.
The driver had an N-plate and was almost 80 km/h over the limit.
The cops arrested the driver right away.
They also found out the driver had no insurance.
Driving without insurance can cost you big time and the fine could be €5,000.
You also get five penalty points, and even speeding alone gets a €160 fine.
Dangerous driving could also result in a €5,000 fine.
This happened on the N71 in West Cork, a road that has seen some bad crashes.
Someone died last October when their car flipped after a crash on the N71.
There was also a big accident near Clonakilty in January.
Last month, someone else sped in Cork, going 164 km/h in a 120 km/h zone during National Slow Down Day.
Cops are begging drivers to please slow down and they posted about this on social media.
Uninsured drivers are becoming a bigger problem, with Cork city seeing a huge jump, over 100%, between 2023 and 2024.
It’s harder to avoid getting caught now as cops use a new app in their cars.
The app scans for all sorts of things checking for speed, stolen cars, and more.
It even finds drivers without insurance or licenses.
Reports suggest that many drivers in Ireland lack insurance, this drives costs up, and insured drivers pay about €175 extra over five years.
