Six new routes will serve key areas. The project will create easier bus transfers and connections.
Currently, Black Ash only has two electric vehicle charging spots. There are no new updates about adding more chargers.
The city council and NTA want to build a new bus hub as part of the BusConnects Cork project. They are awaiting planning permission. This project began in 2022. It will create more frequent bus routes and expand service to areas without buses now.
Transferring buses should become easier, even on weekends. The new interchange will help expand bus services, with six new bus routes set to use the park and ride.
Bus 213 goes between Black Ash and St. Patrick’s Street and will keep running during construction. That service is now twenty years old. The new hub will connect the city to important places, including the hospital, UCC, airport, and train station.
Several new routes will use the Black Ash interchange, linking areas like Grange, the airport and Mahon Point. Other routes connect Fountainstown and Kinsale.
The project includes four new bus bays and a new entrance and exit on Mick Barry Road. New shelters, seating, bike parking, and safe walkways are also planned.
