Good news! The A1058 Coast Road repairs finished and the normal 70 mph speed limit returned. North Tyneside Council announced this news.

They fixed corrosion on the safety barrier in the road’s central area. The speed limit had dropped to 50 mph, affecting the road from the Wills Building to the Silverlink since October 2023 as a safety measure.

The lower limit helped prevent accidents during the road work. This road is important for travel, linking North Tyneside and Newcastle.

The council thanked drivers and appreciated everyone’s patience. Signs now show the 70 mph limit again.

Here’s something else about that road: Newcastle won’t add a bus lane soon, as plans for 2025 don’t include this. Studies showed it wouldn’t work well.

Council members addressed rumors, stating they oppose such a lane when asked about bus lanes last year. They said they “never allow” it.
