A 21-year-old man assaulted his ex-girlfriend after his birthday night out in Cleethorpes. He received a suspended sentence.

Grimsby Crown Court reviewed CCTV footage showing the attack on High Street. Adnan Ahmed, aged 21, admitted the assault which hurt his ex at 2 AM on July 28 last year.
Blaise Morris explained that the CCTV operator called police, having witnessed violence near a taxi rank. The fight went on for minutes, during which Ahmed pushed his ex and grabbed her throat, causing her to fall to the ground.
Passers-by tried to intervene. Judge Gurdial Singh, after viewing the footage, stated Ahmed acted aggressively. Ahmed was later arrested on Osborne Street.
Ahmed had a prior conviction for battery against the same woman. This resulted in a suspended sentence. He was already subject to a community order, which the new violence violated. Morris highlighted the duration of the violence and Ahmed’s history of aggression.
Katherine White, defending Ahmed, described the incident as “a slap, push, and neck grab.” She argued that he is young and needs to mature, and wants to move on. She noted they have had no contact after the attack.
She stated it was his birthday and he did not expect to see her there, resulting in a loss of control. Judge Singh called him an “arrogant bully” and said Ahmed must “grow up.”
The judge warned Ahmed that he would go to prison if they met again, regardless of his age. He then gave him a suspended 10-month sentence lasting for two years.
The judge also ordered rehabilitation activity for five days. Ahmed must wear an alcohol tag for 120 days and complete 180 hours of unpaid work.
