A five-year-old boy died after being struck by a car in Portlaoise, Laois. Gardaí seek witnesses and footage.

The boy sustained severe injuries and was immediately transported to a hospital in Portlaoise. Tragically, he passed away shortly after arrival. A post-mortem examination will be conducted at a later date. The driver, a woman in her 40s, was unharmed.
The road remains closed as investigators are scheduled to examine the scene on Sunday. Authorities are appealing to witnesses to come forward and are particularly interested in obtaining dashcam footage from the Kilminchy area between 4:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. Individuals with information are urged to contact Portlaoise Garda Station at 057 867 4100.
In a separate incident, another person lost their life on Irish roads less than an hour earlier. A man died in Westmeath following a collision involving a quad bike and a motorcycle.
The Westmeath crash took place around 3:30 p.m. in Finea. The quad bike driver, in his 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene. His body has been taken to Mullingar hospital for a post-mortem examination.
A quad bike passenger, also in his 20s, suffered injuries and was transported to Tullamore hospital. While injured, his condition is not life-threatening. The motorcycle driver, also in his 20s, was taken to a Dublin hospital and is currently in critical condition.
