Chesterfield’s oldest pub will open soon. It has been closed for almost four years. New owners told everyone it would serve drinks again. Patrick and Meg bought Ye Royal Oak.

They both work as teachers right now, but they always dreamed of owning a pub. They are working on opening details now, and news will come in the next few months.

Records show the pub existed in 1722. People say it was built in the 12th century, and Knights Templar used it as an inn.

Meg lived in Chesterfield for about three years, often talking about wanting to buy the pub and make it beautiful again. They could buy it, so they did.

Patrick and Meg worked in pubs before. They also held management jobs around the country, but this is the first pub they will own. They are excited about this new journey.

They want to open in a couple months, maybe.

Meg wants to serve pub tapas, along with bar snacks like sandwiches. Expect pork pies, sausage rolls, and pickled eggs, plus a great crisp selection. They might add pies and toasties later.

They posted news on the pub’s Facebook page and feel excited now that they got the keys. They will bring new life to the Royal Oak. Chesterfield’s oldest pub has exciting times ahead.

Meg wants a warm, welcoming place and it will be an independent craft ale and beer pub. They will celebrate the pub’s history and host events regularly. Community groups can meet there.

Locals on Facebook seemed happy to hear. Laura Anne Batterham missed the drinks and food and wished them good luck.

Adorn Jewellers welcomes them as neighbors and loves the pub building. They also wished them good luck.

Deb Scothern felt glad about the news and called it a gem of her town. Malcolm Jarvis felt it was great for the town and sent them luck too.

The pub closed in August 2021, and it was for sale in 2022 for £295,000. It is a historic two-three bedroom building, known as Chesterfield’s oldest pub.
