Bargain Hunt’s Charles Hanson faces trial for assault and coercive control charges against his estranged wife.

The charges involve controlling behavior and assault, acts allegedly targeting his wife, Rebecca. He pleaded not guilty last year, on February 7. Police arrested the Bargain Hunt star in June 2023 at a property in Quarndon.
Derbyshire police responded to a domestic incident at Church Road, Quarndon, leading to the arrest of a man in his 40s for alleged assault. He was later released on bail as investigations continued. On December 14, 2023, police charged Hanson.
One charge is for assault causing bodily harm, allegedly occurring between May 13 and 17, 2020, at Church Road, Quarndon. He also faces a coercive behaviour charge spanning from December 2015 to June 2023.
The alleged abuse caused his wife to fear violence, and he knew or should have known it would affect her. Two counts of assault by beating are also on the charges. These incidents allegedly occurred May 21, 2022 and May 1, 2023.
Hanson has stated he denies all charges and released a statement via Derbyshire Live indicating he will fully cooperate with the legal process. Hanson became famous after qualifying as a surveyor and joining Christie’s in 1999.
He first appeared on Bargain Hunt in 2002 and established his auction business in 2005. Hanson received bail with conditions: he must stay at his parents’ home in Mackworth and cannot contact his wife directly or indirectly.
