Footage of Charles Hanson’s arrest played at trial, where he denies coercive behavior toward his estranged wife.

The video was part of the prosecution’s case. He said, “Am I dreaming?” and “I can’t believe this, guys.” Hanson, now from Mackworth Village, is on trial for coercive behavior toward his estranged wife. These charges are from 2012 to 2023, when they lived in Quarndon. He denies the charges.
The prosecutor showed arrest footage on day seven, taken around 11 p.m. on June 14, 2023. Police told him he was arrested for domestic assault.
He leaned against a wall and seemed sad, asking if he was dreaming. He knew he would stay at the station. An officer asked about firearms at the house, and he said there were none. The video then showed inside the house where Hanson’s dog, Crumble, barked. Hanson calmed the dog down. Outside, Hanson repeated his disbelief to officers.
Mrs. Hanson, a radiographer, testified earlier, saying he attacked her throat while pregnant in 2012. She stated he threatened to burn her with embers and described about 14 or 15 incidents involving arguments or violence in ten years.
Her mother, Jacqueline Ludlam, also testified. She talked about an incident in Wales where Hanson locked her daughter in a hotel room and drove off, leaving her there. Mrs. Hanson acted normal despite problems as the marriage was falling apart.
The defense Barrister questioned Mrs. Ludlam, asking if Rebecca was a drama queen. The barrister suggested she made untrue allegations.
Hanson described his wife in police interviews as a fantasist who blew things out of proportion, watched TikTok constantly, and never spoke nicely or gave hugs. He described a headlock as “a loving hug.”
The trial is still ongoing.
