Two cars became trapped on Red Wharf Bay. Coastguards rescued drivers after a relative’s rescue attempt failed.

The coastguards found four people near Pentraeth beach car park. Their cars were partly underwater, but above the high tide. Both Moelfre and Penmon coastguard teams helped. One driver called a relative for help. This caused both cars to become stuck in the mud.
The Moelfre team arrived around 4 AM on Friday, February 21. They found a car by the parking area. The driver and passenger tried to help their relative. They got stuck trying to reach the first car. Coastguards found the second car. Its occupants were okay, but stuck.
One car was pulled out. The other car was harder to reach. It was not covered by the AA for assistance. So, they left it until daylight to recover it. The first driver had already called for recovery assistance. They waited for a special vehicle to arrive.
It came just before 6 AM. The first car was easily pulled onto solid ground. The second car’s location meant a more rugged vehicle was needed. The Penmon team stayed there for safety. The AA only covered the first car for emergency recovery. The Coastguards told them to return later to recover the second vehicle. They gave safety advice, then left.
The day before, the teams were on the beach. They kept dog walkers safe from the rising tide. Many people called 999 to report the danger of being stranded. The Penmon team saw many people and dogs at risk. They viewed the bay from Llanddona.
Four groups were in danger of being cut off. One group was in immediate danger. It had one adult and four dogs. The Moelfre lifeboat launched to help them. They all made it back to shore safely. Another pair escaped trouble near Wern Y Wylan. They had one adult and one dog.
A third group reached the saltings safely. This group had two adults and three dogs. Coastguards reached the final group. This group had two adults, a child, and two dogs. The Coastguards guided them to Llanddona beach. The teams left when everyone was safe.
