A man lost his potential spot in medical school. He was arrested for possessing child abuse images, and the court heard the details of the case. Jeremy Ousey was the man arrested in connection with this crime. Police executed a warrant at his Swansea home after receiving information that he had accessed these images online.

Ousey’s lawyer identified what they believed were problems in the case. They stated that Ousey sought help after his initial arrest. However, the judge expressed disbelief in Ousey’s claims, particularly his assertion that he lacked sexual interest in children, a claim which the judge strongly disagreed with.

Ryan Bowen, speaking for the prosecution, recounted the events of June 5, 2023. Police arrived at Ousey’s house that morning, following a report related to the upload of illicit images online. After gaining entry, they located Ousey’s room, and Ousey eventually granted them access.

Inside, police found seven electronic devices. They conducted a rapid check of these devices for illegal content, which quickly revealed the presence of indecent material. Consequently, Ousey was arrested. He claimed that others had used his accounts and that he had downloaded files without reviewing their contents, further stating that he preferred “barely legal” content, defining that as individuals between the ages of 19 and 24.

The devices contained nearly 800 indecent images, with two hundred classified as the most extreme type, depicting child rape and abuse, and films showing young girls crying from pain. Officers also found incriminating messages on several apps, including sexual texts sent on the Whisper app. In one exchange, Ousey messaged someone he believed to be 13 years old, stating, “I don’t care about your age.”

Ousey, a resident of Bryn Road in Swansea, admitted to possessing the images in court. These images were categorized as A, B, and C, representing extreme pornography and prohibited child images. In addition to possessing the images, he also attempted sexual contact with a child. Despite these offenses, he had no prior convictions. Susan Ferrier, defending Ousey, argued that the case had concerning issues and highlighted that her client sought assistance following his arrest and subsequently lost his spot in medical school. References described him as generous and respectful.

Judge Paul Lewis KC addressed Ousey’s excuses, noting that even in a report, Ousey claimed a lack of interest in children, a notion the judge firmly rejected. The judge acknowledged that Ousey losing his place in medical school was a consequence of his actions. After reviewing reports and personal letters, Ousey expressed feeling horrified by his actions. The judge determined that Ousey did not require immediate imprisonment, though he did have some hesitation in making his decision.

Ousey received a 14-month suspended sentence, effective for two years. He is required to complete a rehabilitation course and an accredited program. Furthermore, he received a 10-year order aimed at preventing sexual harm. He will also be registered as a sex offender for a period of 10 years.
