Mermaid Quay car park in Cardiff is closing for major redevelopment increasing parking spaces and improving facilities.

Mermaid Quay car park closes March 2nd and stays closed until April 2026. Workers will tear down and rebuild it then, creating a new structure with spaces for parents, kids, and EVs.
Expect a better layout for traffic flow, along with a new cycle hub to encourage biking to the area. Demolition takes about three months, while building the car park lasts nine months.
The car park expansion was approved in 2020. Over 200 people signed a petition then, as locals feared more traffic, pollution, and the impact on nearby homes and a school.
Mermaid Quay’s manager, Mark Nott, advises visitors to check other parking options. He added that his team can help and will look at different travel options.
The new car park improves the experience and will also support further leisure plans, including a new indoor arena nearby. Other parking exists on The Barrage, Havannah Street, and at Q-Park next to the Premier Inn.
