Concerns over increased traffic on A47 led to withdrawal of caravan and glamping pod plan near Earl Shilton.

The application went to Blaby District Council. It wanted space for 21 caravans and five glamping pods on almost 1 hectare, with 26 car parking spaces.
Not everyone liked this idea. Leicestershire County Council worried about roads and thought the project would hurt the highway. They feared more traffic on the busy A47 road, saying turning there could be risky because cars drive very fast.
The highway authority thought access was unsafe because the applicant did not prove a safe road access. A traffic study said speeding was not a major issue. It included a report dated April 2024.
The site is farmland, separated from woods by the the A47 road. The plan included a new shower and toilet block. Developers said it was adequate for the number of people.
A new sewage plant was also in the plans, along with trash storage and private pickup. Mr. Willett planned for experts to install the pods, which specialist manufacturers would supply.
The plan was withdrawn this month. We don’t know why it was pulled back, nor is it clear if they will try again later, and the reasons behind it are not obvious.
