The West Midlands leads the UK in car thefts per capita, despite recent police efforts to combat vehicle crime.
The West Midlands has most car thefts per person. Last year, 7,694 vehicles were stolen there, which is 2.64 thefts per 1,000 residents. London had more total thefts at 14,106, but London’s rate was lower at 1.58, giving the West Midlands a higher theft chance.
South Yorkshire, Essex, and Bristol followed with rates of 1.41, 1.38, and 1.09, respectively. Stolen cars included a Ferrari and Lamborghini.
Police in the West Midlands work harder now and announced that car crime has decreased. They want to reduce car crime even further. A Porsche was among the stolen vehicles recovered, and they seized over 200 cars worth £1.8 million.
Vehicle thefts increased 35% from 2021 to 2023, from 11,990 thefts to 16,232. West Midlands Police data reports a 10% drop now.
Simon Foster spoke about rising thefts and expressed his deep concern. He vowed to protect communities and wants decisive action there. The seizures show officers’ dedication, and Foster is confident that focusing helps to truly tackle this issue.
Gareth Mason agreed with Foster, stating that it showed they get positive investment results, and these efforts help reduce crimes there.
