A big sinkhole opened up in Godstone on Tuesday, February 18th. The sinkhole was reportedly about the size of a car. The A25 High Street closed in both directions due to this incident, and some homes nearby had to be evacuated for safety. People also lost their water supply.

Victoria Ann saw the sinkhole while trying to get water, as she had no water service. She immediately called the emergency responders. A neighbor helped keep the area safe. Victoria described the sinkhole as being large enough for a car to fall into.

A woman blocked the road near the sinkhole, and another resident directed the traffic away from the danger. Emergency services acted quickly and arrived at the scene within ten minutes. Bletchingley lost water around 10:30 pm, and Victoria worried about the broader water situation.

Victoria’s water service returned around 3 am, but other people still had no running water. SES Water reported that RH1 and RH9 areas were experiencing water issues stemming from the main on Godstone High Street.

A local pet groomer, KP Pretty Paws, had to temporarily close its doors due to the lack of water needed to operate. They planned to reopen as soon as water service was restored and promised to keep everyone updated on their status.

SES Water is diligently working to fix the broken water main in collaboration with UKPN and emergency teams. They advise avoiding Godstone High Street, if possible, and have established a detour route for drivers.

SES Water is providing bottled water to prioritized customers in the affected areas. Those in need of bottled water are encouraged to check the SES Water website for updates and distribution locations. For a water emergency, you can call 01737 72000.

Police are also present at the scene, and some buildings were evacuated as a precautionary measure. A 100-meter safety zone has been established. Police are collaborating with other agencies to manage the situation and ensure public safety.
