Hey, guess what I just read? Police in Scotland seized a lot of cannabis. They took over £3 million worth since 2025 started. Criminals are growing it in empty buildings.

In just six weeks, cops found £3,425,000 worth from sixteen different police raids. One raid in Greenock found £120,000 worth, with 200 plants in a property. Officers in Motherwell stopped two people and discovered cannabis with a value of £150,000.

Two men got arrested in Falkirk this January related to cannabis farms since 2022, which had produced drugs worth £3.6 million. Five men received jail time for a farm in Galashiels that had almost £2.5 million worth of cannabis.

DrugWise suggests that more seizures could simply indicate increased police activity, rather than an actual increase in the amount of drugs around. Finding one big grow operation boosts the numbers significantly, but this does not necessarily mean more drugs are actually available.

Police chiefs warned about empty buildings last year, noting that organized crime uses them to grow cannabis, exploiting Britain’s empty high streets. Here’s where police found cannabis this year:

On February 11, they found plants in Greenock and Blackburn. Kirkcaldy had £1,800 worth seized on February 10. Cardonald had £100,000 seized on February 8. Motherwell’s seizure was on February 7. Police found cocaine and cannabis in Glasgow on February 6.

Hawick had a big seizure of £289,000 on February 4. Police found cannabis in Balblair on January 28. Stirling had plants worth £1 million on January 28. Falkirk had arrests related to multiple farms on January 20. Macduff and Glasgow both had seizures on January 18.

Cowdenbeath had a seizure on January 15. Edinburgh had a big find on January 13, and another on January 9. Ellon had a seizure on January 3.

Police say they want to stop drug problems and protect people. Officers try to stop drug growth and sales all the time, and aim to address local concerns by working with partners and businesses. Police actively target criminals and crime groups.

Police need help from the public too, asking people to report unusual activity. Indicators like vacant buildings and strong smells are often helpful. Call 101 for Police Scotland if you know something or call Crimestoppers anonymously at 0800 555 111. The police will listen and act.
