Police close a Woodston house due to violence, suspecting drug dealing and exploitation of a vulnerable tenant.

Officers suspect “cuckooing,” meaning someone took over a vulnerable person’s home and uses it for crime, potentially exploiting this person. The court issued a full closure order on Wednesday, February 19.
The house is closed until May 19. Nobody can enter, except for emergency services, Clarion Housing and their agents. Even the tenant cannot go in. Breaking the order is a crime, which could result in jail time or a fine.
PC Harriet Gedney explained that “cuckooing” involves someone taking over a vulnerable person’s home to deal, store, or take drugs, and possibly live there. Criminals might befriend the tenant, then abuse them.
Neighbors suffered for some time, reporting violence and bad behavior to the police. Police think drugs caused these issues. Gedney hopes this action brings relief.
Police will check the house often and arrest anyone breaking the order. They will enforce the order strictly, which should improve the situation.
