A man has been jailed following a string of moped thefts in Cambridge, with stolen goods valued over £450,000 recovered.

Police identified several suspects in these crimes, one of whom was Mark Bailey, confirmed by a Cambridgeshire Police representative. They searched Bailey’s home back in December 2022, and found stolen vehicles.
Alongside the vehicles, police discovered a mobile phone at his house, which contained evidence of him selling stolen goods. Mark Bailey, age 53, whose address is Nuttings Road, went to court.
The court sentenced Bailey to 20 months, but this was suspended for two years. He admitted to handling stolen goods five times. As part of his sentence, Bailey must also complete 200 hours of unpaid work.
Bobby Bailey, age 19, also went to court on January 17. He admitted to stealing vehicles five times. Bobby received a two-year community order, and he must also complete 160 hours of unpaid work.
Kieran Roberts, 21, also received a community order, lasting for one year. He must do 75 hours of unpaid work. Kieran admitted to stealing a vehicle. Liam Kilpatrick, 18, received an 18-month community order after admitting to handling stolen goods, vehicle theft, and damage.
Three younger boys, aged 15, 16, and 17, are still awaiting their sentence; their names cannot be released for legal reasons. Detective Constable Antonio Fernandez, who investigated the case, said the police successfully brought these offenders to justice.
Fernandez expressed his satisfaction that they solved the moped theft problem. The police aim to lower impactful crimes and foster safe neighborhoods. To help prevent future thefts, the police shared some tips for moped owners: use a disc lock on the front brake, chain the back wheel to something solid, and use a cover to hide your moped’s model.
