A Penarth cafe owner caught a thief raiding his till at 4.30am, making a citizen’s arrest after a chase.

This was the seventh crime in eight months. Someone targeted his businesses. Matt jumped into his van quickly, and his wife, Charlotte, then phoned the police. The cafe was nearby.
Matt saw a man dressed in black. The man’s face was covered, and he acted suspiciously on the way. Matt questioned him, but the man ran away fast. Matt chased him and caught the man. He held him for the police.
The cafe’s CCTV showed two men with covered faces. They tried to break in the cafe early Friday morning. The camera inside showed someone going through the till before they left quickly.
Matt said burglaries increased recently, and the police have been very helpful too. However, he feels let down by policing because business burglaries seem less important.
To address this, businesses now work together to fix it. They talk and share information as they try to solve the problems.
South Wales Police received a call at 4:40 am reporting a burglary at Willmore’s café. The suspect had already been detained in the Westbourne Road area. Officers then arrived quickly.
A 31-year-old man from Barry was arrested for burglary. He is currently in custody.
