Hey, guess what’s happening with the old Broadmarsh Centre? They are going to tear it all down. The whole thing will probably cost close to £30 million. Demolition should start this July, and they think it will take about a year.

The city council needs extra money. They asked a regional group for over £3 million to help pay for the demolition work. The regional leaders discussed it at a meeting and will decide if they approve the money.

The plan is to replace the center and they hope to create a new lively area. It should bring over 2,000 jobs to the city. There will also be many things to do, think entertainment and attractions.

They want to demolish the east side first. This opens up ground for development deals. Demolishing the south part helps too, as it makes the whole place more appealing. Without the funding, investors might not bite.

The council took over the site a while back and asked people what they wanted there. A company already tore down part of the mall in 2022. Now, there’s a new city park called the Green Heart.

This park has a cool marsh and rock features. Once the mall is gone, there are big plans: they want to build almost 1,000 houses there. There will also be a lot of office spaces for jobs.

The council leader said no student housing. They want families and workers living there; that’s their plan for the space. They want everyday people to make it home.
