A British tourist is in Thai custody after being caught with 38kg of cannabis at Krabi Airport, potentially facing a decade in jail.

Daniel James Hallett is 38 years old. They stopped him at Krabi Airport. Customs officers thought his bags looked odd. Officers claim they found 35 cannabis packages. The packages were vacuum-sealed. Many bags hid the smell, they say.
Hallett is from Hull. He owns a haulage company. He is at Nuea Khlong police station now. The Telegraph reported this news. Police superintendent Apichat Jinaphen spoke to media. He said Hallett tried to export illegal goods. He broke the customs act.
Hallett also broke rules about Thai herbs. It involves cannabis for business use. This violates another law. He stayed at the station two days. Then, they took him to court.
He could face ten years in prison. There might also be a fine. The court decides the final penalty. Thailand made low-dose cannabis legal in 2022. Many shops opened all over the country. This liberalization happened quickly.
Exporting cannabis is still illegal. It carries a very harsh penalty. It is a crime to try and take cannabis out. Jinaphen wants tourists to know the rules. Other people tried to smuggle cannabis too. They got caught, so be careful.
