The Thunderbolt, a well known Bristol pub and music venue, is being sold by its current owner who hopes it remains a music venue.

The pub is near Totterdown. A new Temple Quarter campus is coming, which could bring many new owners. Estate agents JS Reakes are selling it. They describe it as charming and Victorian. It is also a Grade II-listed building.
JS Reakes calls it an exciting chance to buy a well-known party and music spot. There is a big garden out back with a BBQ and play place for children.
The Thunderbolt is near Bristol’s city center and next to the Temple Quarter project, with homes. It used to be The Turnpike Inn, where people paid tolls on the road. Some old features are still there.
Locals raised money in 2020 and 2021 using crowdfunding to help the pub, as Covid rules made things tough. Regular music has returned, happening most nights now.
The Thunderbolt plays many kinds of music, including guitar bands, rock, and metal. Owner David McDonald formed a “supergroup” once and they helped support the bar with a song.
The pub won’t close during the sale, though it might take a few years. McDonald said they are staying open during this time and booked events will still happen as planned.
The area around The Thunderbolt is changing, with Temple Quarter developing quickly. A Boat Yard development is nearby as well, and a gas station next door is becoming flats too.
