Faulty fountains in Bristol are being removed to create more space for pedestrians and food stalls.

People asked the council about the project’s timeline. A sign says work on the promenade ends May 17. This area is between Neptune’s statue and Cascade Steps.
The council shared removal plans last September. They want more space for walkers and food stalls. Trees were cut; they grew too big and risked hitting buses and pedestrians.
Andrew Brown spoke last September. He said the area is very busy, and fountains seemed like a good idea. However, they didn’t work well and took up needed space. Fewer water reserves existed underground.
The area will become one flat surface. A big artwork will go there, and platforms above the steps will hold food stalls. Smaller trees will replace London planes. These new trees will have pink blossoms.
Eventually, the council may change the bike path color so that pedestrians will notice the path easier. Conflict with cyclists should reduce because currently, this bike path is hard to see.
